The Mega TV/GPO poll put Syriza at 21.5%, a half a point ahead of New Democracy (21%,

Newly founded To Potami (River) came in third on 8.5%, Golden Dawn on 7.5%, the Communist Party (KKE) on 7%; the Pasok-backed Olive Tree (Elia) coalition on 6%, Independent Greeks 3.7% and Democratic Left (Dimar) just making the threshold on 3%.

In the event of national elections, New Democracy polled at 24.5%, followed by Syriza on 23.1%, the KKE on 7.2%; To Potami on 7%; Golden Dawn on 6.9%, Olive Tree/Pasok on 5.9%; Independent Greeks on 4% and Democratic Let on 2.8%.

More respondents (44.6%) were favourable to Antonis Samaras being prime minister than Syriza's Alexis Tsipras (29%). Almost a quarter of voters said neither Samaras or Tsipras were suitable.

The nationwide poll was conducted between 8-10 May and May 12.
