Originally from the west of Ireland, Damian has lived in Greece since 2004, which he blames on having pursued a PhD on the history of East Germany. While doing archival work in Berlin, he met a Greek who would later become his wife. He cut his journalistic teeth at the much-lamented English-language weekly Athens News, for which he juggled numerous beats, including running the online version, from 2008 to 2012.
