Government appoints Efterpi Koutzamani as attorney general and Michalis Theocharidis as president of the supreme court for civil and criminal law (Areios Pagos) and Sotiris Rizos as president of the Council of State, the highest administrative court

Efterpi Koutzamani Efterpi Koutzamani For the first time in the body's history, a woman has been appointed to the position of attorney (or prosecutor) general of the country's supreme court.

Efterpi Koutzamani appointment to the second-highest position in the Areios Pagos was confirmed by the cabinet on Thursday.

The government also named Michalis Theocharidis as president of the court, the highest for civil and criminal law, and Sotiris Rizos as president of the Council of State, the supreme administrative court.

Koutzamani was the longest-serving deputy public prosecutor at the Areios Pagos, joining the court seven years ago. Previously, she served as a state prosecutor in the trial of the leadership of the November 17 terrorist group.

She will hold the new position until 2016.
